Resolution seems like a dirty word anymore. Maybe because year after year we fail to achieve them or give up after a few months of effort or make unrealistic goals.

In 2017, I came close to achieving my New Year’s goal. The goal was 100 lbs weight loss. The final results being 73 lbs of that. A carry over to 2018 of 27 lbs.

Though the resolution wasn’t complete, I learned so much more about my body than I originally anticipated. I’ve spent years dieting, especially after having my three sweet kiddos with no luck. The most amazing epiphany occurred when I started playing with bulletproof or butter coffee. I felt so great with more energy and less hunger. I started researching high fat diets. It didn’t take long to run into ketogengic lifestyle. I had to give it a try and geez was I surprised!

Not only was I full and filled with energy, but fat started melting off! I’ve been called the incredible shrinking woman as a joke. I thoroughly enjoy when I’m not recognized. I started a document to help family and friends get started on the keto diet that seemed to constantly grow so moved to internet page instead (which still needs work).

I was ashamed of how large I had become and didn’t want to share all of my numbers at first, but I have a new perspective to encourage anyone I can to make the same leap! It’s hard being brainwashed in a carb fueled society to go against everything you’ve been taught about nutrition. I couldn’t be happier that I did! Here is my year in numbers:

Exercise has also played a large role. I started just walking on the treadmill for months. By April I was doing more intervals at higher speeds and longer distances. The farthest I walked in a day was 13 miles. I’d do intervals at only 6-7 mph on treadmill for a few mins or laps of a track (.25-.5 miles).

I felt good and took the conditioning slow. It wasn’t until the summer that I tried jogging a full mile. By August I went from the treadmill to outdoors. Completed my first 5k in September and 10k in December. I’ve officially ran 10 miles without stopping and working towards a mini marathon in April 2018.

This journey has been truly life changing. I hope this post gives someone inspiration to stick to their resolution, try keto, try running or all of the above!

Happy New Year and here’s to a new you!

Here are some before and after pictures my awesome sister Tawny put together for me.
